What to Know Before Your Fishing Charter

Whether you’re new to fishing or a seasoned angler, we want you to feel prepared and comfortable before stepping aboard. Below are answers to common questions about our Lake Ontario and Bay of Quinte charters. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact us.

Do I need fishing experience?

No. Beginners are welcome, and we provide instruction and support throughout the trip.

Are fishing charters private?

Yes — all trips are fully private for your group only.

How long are your charters?

Half-day charters run approximately 5 hours, and full-day charters run approximately 8 hours. Start times may vary depending on season and fishing conditions.

How many people can the boat accommodate?

Dún Mara is Transport Canada rated for up to 8 passengers. For comfort, safety, and fishing space, standard charters include up to 4 adult guests. For families, we can accommodate up to 6 total guests when children are included. All required safety equipment, including approved lifejackets for everyone on board, is provided.

Is the boat heated?

Yes — the enclosed cabin is equipped with a diesel heater to keep you warm and comfortable during cooler outings.

What should I bring for my fishing charter?

Bring weather-appropriate clothing (layers recommended), food and drinks, and a valid Ontario fishing license.

Where do charters depart from?

Charters depart from marinas and launches in the Bay of Quinte area. Your exact departure location and meeting instructions will be confirmed prior to your trip.

When is the best time for walleye fishing in the Bay of Quinte?

Spring and fall are prime seasons for Bay of Quinte walleye fishing, with strong migratory movements and active feeding patterns. Trip timing is adjusted based on seasonal conditions and fish location.

Can we keep the fish?

Keeping fish depends on current Ontario regulations and the active fishery. We strictly follow all applicable rules and will review limits with you during the trip. If you’d like to keep fish, bring a cooler and we’ll take care of the rest.

Is there a toilet on the boat?

Yes — Dún Mara is equipped with a flush toilet and privacy curtain for comfort during your charter.

What if the weather is bad?

Safety always comes first. If conditions are not suitable, we will reschedule your charter for the next available date.

Can we bring alcohol or cannabis on board?

No. Alcohol and cannabis consumption is prohibited by law while aboard the vessel. For the safety of everyone on board, we operate as a dry charter.
